Senior Voucher Program

For over 20 years, the Main Street Program has been offering the Senior Voucher Program with the purpose of providing healthy, fresh produce for our local seniors who may be experiencing food insecurity. Over $7,000 in food vouchers are distributed each year to seniors and families in need. Our program also helps support local farmers as vouchers can be used at the Platteville Farmer’s Market to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. Although this program is mainly focused on seniors, some vouchers are provided to the Food Pantry and the Main Street Program office for distribution to families in need of assistance.

The National average of those who identify as food insecure has risen from 10.2% to 12.8%. In Wisconsin, Grant County has increased from 7.2% to 10.6%!  Food cost is the biggest factor for the increase in food insecurity with meal prices rising from $3.48 to $3.95. Food insecurity continues to increase as there are 5,500 people who are food insecure in our county with 45% of those being 62 years or older. These statistics are staggering and we are in desperate need of your help! Funding for the Senior Voucher Program has decreased and we are looking for additional opportunities to fund the program.

The money for the Senior Voucher Program comes from generous individuals and grants who realize the importance of our seniors having access to fresh, healthy produce. If you want to donate to a worthy cause, you can scan the QR code or reach out to us using the information provided.
